THE Hat

June 2010 and the FIFA World Cup are fast approaching and every friday here in South Africa is "football friday" (which I find a curious term since they call it 'soccer' here!). You are supposed to wear your team jersey but until now I have been unable to find anything for the USA. It's a bias I tell you! Here we almost won the Confed Cup and they still assume that no one from America cares about soccer (ok, they have a point, but still!). Despite the fact that I don't know any of our players, I feel it's important to support my people and I was getting a bit upset.

While shopping for presents at the Rosebank Market I came across a stand with 2010 paraphenalia and was giving it's owner a hard time about not having anything for the US. However, he proved me wrong by pulling out this hat from the back of the stand!

This is a very South African item - they take a hard hat and cut shapes from it to show their support for their team. I now wear it around the house on Fridays :-) I feel it adds some excitement to the day. I may even venture out of the house with it someday!

Of course, after I brought it home, we had to get some photo opportunities in!
The 'Other American' :-)
We look quite stylish!
Jester and Ursula wishing they were as cool as us!"This hat is half my size mom! I can't balance with it on!"
