South Africa has been WILD since the 9th of June. The warm-up to the world cup began with a celebration at 2pm on the 9th with everyone standing outside their shops on the street blowing vuvuzelas and dancing. Then the 10th was the official kick-off concert and the 11th saw the soccer begin. Bafana Bafana, the USA and Steven Gerard have all been playing very well so far so I have been enjoying the action :-). It is great to see everyone in the country getting excited about this and to be part of something so big!
I am grateful to watch it in front of the TV though, rather than being at the stadiums! The vuvuzela's apparently sound like "a hive of bees trapped in a jam jar" (thanks for the quote Henry) and are louder than a chainsaw at the stadiums! After being stuck in the mall with everyone blowing them on the 11th, I am SO happy not to have to sit through 90+ minutes of it!
We have been having fun at the house though. One of my friends came over and watched the USA match with me and the Aunties, of course, have been watching EVERY match when they are here. It is really soccer fever!
