My beautiful princess turned 3 this week! We had a big (by our standards) party for her on Saturday. Usually we just celebrate with the Aunties and other kids (6 is a pretty good party number!) but for her we wanted to do something special. So we invited Nicky, her friend from the play place we go on a Monday, and 2 of our kids who had been adopted. 'Monster' got to spend the whole day with us because his mom had to work, so we all really enjoyed that.

The party was, of course, princess themed. We decorated crowns, played "stick the crown on the princess, and even had a princess pinata (above)! The kids had great fun whacking it, but it was actually designed to be opened by pulling on a string, so it took some help from the grown ups to actually get it to break apart.

Our princess cake - why isn't it pink you may ask? Because my little princess LOVES orange. It is by far her favourite color, and the only one she always identifies correctly. I made a chocolate orange cake and flavoured the icing orange too. The cake fell in the oven though, so instead of Barbie standing up, I decided proportionally I needed to give her legs. Hey, even Barbie gets tired!

Monster wearing his crown - he was the only one who kept it on for the whole party. He had such fun visiting with all of his friends, and it is so nice for them to see that he still exists! It is so confusing for the ones left behind when a child is adopted.

Me and my princess, with her wand and crown from Nicky. She got SO many presents, including 2 Barbie dvds from her Aunties, so that we don't have to watch Barney ALL the time!
